Why use a solicitor for a personal injury* claim instead of going through the Injuriesboard.ie?
Solicitors are experts when it comes to personal injury* and are therefore the best people to manage your legal query. To be certain you’re choosing a reputable firm that you can trust, check that they have a practising certificate issued by the Law Society of Ireland. If you cannot see it, you are well within your rights to ask to see it.
Solicitors are aware of all the legal pitfalls, important details and customs that are part of the personal injury* claims process. This is what enables them to secure the compensation you deserve for your claim. If you’re approaching the injury board on your own, you have little way of knowing how much you’ll be able to claim and whether the amount initially quoted is reasonable or not.
You will find it difficult to predict the amount of costs along the way and could be shocked by a big bill at the end. A solicitor will be aware of the regular costs associated with a claim and be able to advise throughout your claim.
Using a solicitor from the start is the most efficient way, meaning that you don’t waste time or money. A solicitor will be able to wade through all the legal jargon, negotiate on your behalf and be fully aware of the legal timeframes and deadlines.
In many cases, an insurance company will contact you on the respondent’s behalf in order to make a quick settlement. (The respondent is the person against whom you’re making the claim.) It’s all too easy to feel pressured into accepting this initial offer, which may be far below what you are actually entitled to. A solicitor will have a much better idea of what you should receive and work hard to ensure you get it.

The Personal Injury* Claims Process With Gibson & Associates
If you choose Gibson & Associates to deal with your personal injury* claim, here is the process that we will take you through:
Consultation & Meeting
The first step is to arrange a face to face meeting or phone consultation to get a better understanding of your case and the injuries you have suffered.
The next stage is to get a medical report from a professional. Gibson & Associates can arrange this for you.
Present Case to Injury Board
Gibson & Associates will work to pull together a case for your compensation. We use our experience and insight to present the best case possible to the board.
Injury Board Assessment & Quote
The Injury Board will assess how much compensation your case is likely to win.
Accept or Reject The Offer
At this point, we need to make a decision around whether to accept the offer or not. We will talk through the offer with you and give an honest assessment of whether we feel the offer is fair. You have 28 days to accept or reject the offer.
- If you choose to accept the offer, an Order to Pay will be sent to the other party and you will receive your compensation
- If you choose not to accept the offer, the case may be taken to court.
Once we feel we have reached a fair outcome, whether through the Injury Board or through the court, you will then be awarded compensation.
